Clotrimazole antifungal cream

Clotrimazole is used for the treatment of fungal skin infections, including ringworm, nappy rash, and athlete’s foot. Fungi require certain conditions to grow and spread, including warmth and moisture. This is why the common areas affected areas tend to be between the creases of skin, or in areas with perspiration. The most common use of clotrimazole is the fungal infection Tinea, also known as ringworm. Tinea can be treated by applying clotrimazole to the infected area 2 or 3 times a day for at least 2 weeks and a maximum of 4 weeks.

The steroid and antifungal combination cream (clotrimazole and hydrocortisone) is very good at reducing inflammation and itchiness in addition to treating the infection and works as double therapy. It is suitable for all conditions mentioned above, however, is not suitable to be used for more than 7 days and in children 10 years or under.

Clotrimazole is effective against a range of different fungi. Clotrimazole kills fungi by disrupting the production of important components needed for it to function.

You should start to see an improvement of your symptoms within 7 days, however can take up to 4 weeks to fully clear. The anti-inflammatory steroidal effects in the combination cream work on the skin cells to reduce inflammation, with the combination cream it is expected to clear up within 7 days.

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying for a baby, tell your doctor or midwife before using clotrimazole cream. The combination cream should be used in children 10 or under. Also, it should not be used on the face or other sensitive areas of the body.

Like all medicines, clotrimazole can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The most common is irritation on the area where the cream is applied. As with all medicines, some people may be allergic to the cream. If you are allergic, a reaction will occur soon after you start using it. If you experience an allergic reaction, stop using clotrimazole cream and tell your doctor straight away.
