Vocalzone Throat Pastilles are an over-the-counter remedy that have been used since their invention in 1907. Their formula has barely changed since they were first introduced, and are now even vegan friendly. The pastilles are formulated to help with the symptoms of a sore throat or irritation to help recover a voice.

Who is it for?

Vocalzone is a great option for many as it works by soothing, clearing the throat, and relieving it from irritation. It is great to help someone keep a clear voice, especially before prolonged/intensive use of their voice. The plant-based origins of the ingredients make them gluten, lactose & sugar-free whilst also being vegan-friendly. Others prefer to take them when they begin to feel irritation in their throat. Vocalzone mentions they are especially useful for throat irritation post singing, talking, or excessive smoking.

How does it work?

Vocalzone contains three key active ingredients:

  • myrrh
  • peppermint oil
  • menthol

Myrrh works as an anti-inflammatory antioxidant, with antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. Peppermint oil cools down any irritation and works as a decongestant. Menthol works by helping to soothe and relieve throat irritation. Therefore, in combination, it produces an effective formulation.

Should anybody not take it?

It is not suitable for children under the age of 12 years old. It is also not suitable for anyone who is allergic to any of the ingredients in the pastilles. You may also need to speak to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as it is not licensed for use in these two situations.

Are there any side effects?

Some may find that the Vocalzone pastilles are naturally unpleasant to taste. Most people do not experience any side effects if used correctly. Some people experience diarrhoea due to the additive laxative effect with concurrent use.

Occasionally, some people experience a severe allergic reaction to the medication. If this is the case, get in contact with the emergency services.
